In 2013, the Middle Marches completed a review and update of its award system. In the SCA, landed Barons and Baronesses are empowered by the Crown to create baronial level awards, and give them to members of their populace to recognize achievement in the Society. Until recently, the awards of the Middle Marches were a collection of awards that grew organically over the course of the Barony’s decade spanning history. Several of the awards had not been registered with the College of Heralds, and the descriptions of some of the awards conflicted with each other.
Beginning in 2012 and completed in 2013, the Barony conducted a complete overhaul of the awards. Several new awards were added, and all of the awards were organized and rewritten so as to not conflict with each other and to be easily understandable to new members.
